Curriculum:

Silk Reeling
This is the core of Taiji Quan. It's smooth, flowing motion conditions the body to move in a flowing light circular pattern that is the trademark of Taiji Quan. There is emphasis on constant, uninterrupted, smooth motion and "coiling," without sudden jerking or sharp change in direction. The concepts and body mechanics learned through Silk Reeling, are used throughout every aspect of Taiji Quan.

Ba Dua Jin
The Eight Piece of Brocade, or the Ba Dua Jin (八段锦气功) is an excellent Qi Gong form originated by the Chinese folk hero, General Yue Fei during the Song Dynasty (960-1127C.E.) as a means to improve the health of his troops. Originally there may have been 12 exercises, but having been passed down from generation to generation for over 800 years some exercises have been excluded. As stated by Dr. Yang Jwing Ming, the exercises are simple and easy to learn, since they are based on natural instinctive movements people make when they feel discomfort or pain. The eight exercises serve to alleviate aches, stretch and relax the body, and promote good health. Standing version only.

Cheng Man Ching 37 Form
A student of Yang Cheng Fu, Prof. Cheng M'an Ching traveled to the U.S. to disseminate the art of Taiji Quan in the West. He shortened and modified the form to make it more accessable for the busy modern-day practitioner.

Compared to to the original Yang form, Prof. Cheng's form is more compact, the motion is more loose and relaxed, the postures are higher and stances narrower (middle frame.) Emphasis on center step, tile hand (which has been replaced with the "fair lady hand"), and various repetitions have all been diminished. Inclanation of the upper body has been all but removed, focusing on an upright back at all times.

Furthermore, some schools of Cheng Man Ching style have the practitioner inhale when the body movement is expanding, and exhale when contracting (reverse breathing). Overall, the form is more accessable to people of all ages, has greater focus on relaxation (soong,) while still retaining the health benifits of the original Yang form.
